California Council on Developmental Disabilities Case Management Study

The California developmental disabilities service delivery system network is composed of 21 regional centers which serve as the primary community based contact points for developmentally disabled citizens and their advocates. They are the offices where those needing assistance go to obtain advice, guidance, and referral for general and specific resources. The regional centers are also the hub around which existing resources can be arranged and through which new services may be established. The study which WRMA conducted for the State Council on Developmental Disabilities was an assessment of the roles and responsibilities of the Regional Center System in case management and the system itself. Specifically, the four major objectives were to assess:

  1. The definition and systems structure of case management
  2. The necessary level of background and education required by a case manager
  3. The role of parents and/or clients in case management
  4. The relative benefit/detriments of in-house versus contractual case management

A final report outlining our findings was submitted, accepted and acted upon by the Council.
