The Evaluation of Child Welfare County Caseworker Workload was conducted under the leadership of the Colorado Office of the State Auditor (OSA). The Colorado Department of Human Services (DHS) supervises the child welfare system throughout the state while the state’s 64 county departments of human/social services directly administer child welfare programs and services. This work evaluation was focused on the workloads of county child welfare caseworkers, supervisors, and other frontline staff. This workload study of all county child welfare employees, which WRMA participated in, culminated in a report to the Legislative Audit Committee regarding organizational improvement and staffing level recommendations to better manage workloads of county caseworkers, supervisors, and other frontline staff—in order to deliver services to children and their families to meet the desired outcomes of child safety, permanency, and well-being across the State of Colorado.
